Danladi Jatau (APC, Kokona West), the deputy majority leader of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, is expected to take over as the next Speaker of the House, unless there is a last-minute change, according to LEADERSHIP.
Similarly, Hon. Mohammed Oyanki (PDP, Doma North), a member of the House, has also been nominated for the role of Deputy Speaker.
This came about as a result of a meeting that Governor Abdullahi Sule and members of the State Assembly had on Thursday at the Government House in Lafia.
According to a person with knowledge of the discussion, the election of the new Assembly leadership was “done deal.”
The source stated, “Jatau and Oyanki were the governor and members’ choice, and they will be formally inaugurated soon.”
The recent nullification of Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi’s election as Speaker by the Court of Appeal left a void that was filled by the rise of the new leadership.
Remember that on Tuesday, November 28, the Court of Appeal in Abuja ruled that Sa’ad Abdullahi Ibrahim of the PDP was the legitimate winner of the State Assembly election for the Umaisha/Ugya state constituency on March 18, 2023, and not Abdullahi.
Following the court’s ruling, Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala (PDP, Nassarawa Eggon West), the deputy speaker of the house, assumed the role of acting speaker.
According to the source, the acting Speaker will chair Governor Sule’s budget presentation on Friday. He will then dismiss all House standing committees and begin the process of installing a new leadership.
He further stated that either Friday or Monday would mark the inauguration of the Assembly’s new leadership.
