The abduction of several passengers near Nde 3 Corners Akparabong Junction in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State has been confirmed by the police.
The passengers, who were traveling through the area, were ambushed by gunmen who opened fire on their vehicles, injuring three individuals and taking an unspecified number of people captive.
The spokesperson for the police command, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident but did not provide further details. The abduction took place on Sunday, and efforts are currently underway to secure the release of the kidnapped passengers and prevent any similar incidents from occurring in the future.
According to a resident of the community, Mr. James Ese, the three injured individuals were promptly taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Ese also expressed concern over the frequent attacks on the road, attributing them to herdsmen. He called on security agencies to take decisive action and put an end to the menace that has plagued the area for the past three weeks. Ese highlighted the high number of deaths, including that of a baby, resulting from kidnapping activities in the Nde 3 Corners Akparabong Junction area.
