An accountant with the Cross River Ministry of Education was shot on Wednesday after being pursued by gunmen to the former Government Secretariat close to Government House in Calabar.
Following him from a bank where he had gone to make some withdrawals to the secretariat, the accountant was hurt in the thigh.
The victim was shot at close range by the two shooters, who were reported to have followed him to his office building where they forcibly stole the bag containing cash from him.

According to SP Irene Ugbo, a state police command spokesperson who verified the account, the victim was taken right away to the Naval Referral hospital for medical care.
Mr Ugbo denounced the conduct and stated that the gunman, who were allegedly following the victim on a motorbike, were already being pursued by the police.
There has been an increase in motorbike robberies in the city lately.
