He claimed that because the 2023 presidential election is still being litigated in court, the US must “await the full resolution of the ongoing judicial processes.”

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president, has voiced his concern with American Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s phone conversation to President-elect Bola Tinubu, claiming that the call’s justification lacked clarity.

The American government official reportedly stressed his continued commitment to further enhancing the US-Nigeria relationship with the incoming administration during the call.

Nevertheless, Obi stated in a tweet on Friday that the 2023 presidential election was still being litigated in court and that the US was expected to “wait for the full resolution of the ongoing judicial processes before tacitly conferring legitimacy on any of the contending parties.”

Nigerians, he claims, anticipate that “the U.S. responses to our affairs should be based on mutual respect, shared ideals, aspirations, and interests which ought to transcend the considerations of any individual.”

In addition, he said that the US shouldn’t react to political developments in Nigeria in a way that even remotely resembles siding with one side.

The former governor of Anambra State continued, “The appropriate courts of law can be the only arbiters of the genuine winner of the election. Even more so, the legal disputes suggest extensive violations of both the Nigerian Constitution and the country’s electoral law.

On what grounds U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken called Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, on May 16, 2023, is still unclear. The rule of law is the cornerstone and central value of democracy.
