The nation’s frequently tragic boat accidents, particularly the most recent tragedies in Mokwa, Niger State, and Gurin, Adamawa State, have been the subject of a detailed investigation ordered by President Bola Tinubu to the relevant maritime agencies.
The President issued the instruction in a statement on Tuesday that was released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.
He also instructed the maritime and transportation safety authorities, as well as the related government agencies, to work closely together in order to pinpoint the catastrophes’ underlying causes.
The relatives of those who perished in the recent boating accidents, which took numerous lives—mostly women and children—also received condolence messages from Tinubu.
In addition to expressing support for the leaders and citizens of Niger and Adamawa states, Tinubu praised the quick mobilisation of volunteers and emergency response teams to offer urgent aid to those impacted by the tragedies.
He also hoped for a swift recovery for those hurt in the tragedies.
“President Tinubu underscored his commitment to holding government agencies accountable for any regulatory or safety lapses and further instructs a thorough review of safety precautions and a strict enforcement of existing laws on boating activities in the country,” the statement continued.
He gave the affected families and communities assurances of the government’s ongoing support and his dedication to preventing similar tragic situations from happening in the future.
