Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, who represents Eebonyi North, has replaced Senator Ashiru as the Senate’s Deputy Whip. Senator Ashiru previously held the position.
On Wednesday during plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared Senator Lola Ashiru to be the new Deputy Leader of the Senate.
Ashiru, who represents Kwara North in the red chamber, takes the place of Senator Dave Umahi, who President Bola Tinubu named as the Minister of Works.

Ola Olukoyede and Muhammad Hammajoda, the candidates for chairman and secretary of the head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), respectively, are currently in the Senate for consideration and confirmation.
This comes after President Bola Tinubu named them as the commission’s chair and secretary, respectively, on October 12, 2023, subject to Senate confirmation.
