On Saturday, terrorists stormed villages in Kankara Communities, Katsina State, resulting in no less than 23 villager deaths and a number of injuries.
The thugs had earlier on Friday attended the wedding celebration (Walima) of one of their leaders, known as “Mai Katifa Mutuwa,” in Majifa Village, but remained in the area till Saturday to carry out the attack.
The bandits opted to raid adjacent villages on Saturday rather than disperse peacefully after the wedding festivities. Danmarke, Gidan Sale, Gidan Sarka, Gidan Jiho, and Gidan Ancho were among the towns they targeted.
“While some vigilantes made an effort to stop the hoodlums from wreaking havoc in the neighbourhood, their numbers were insufficient to match their combat prowess.
“This morning, we learned that the attack claimed the lives of 23 residents. We went to part of their funeral ceremonies this morning.
The source said that “several persons were also hurt in the incident. Since then, some of them have been delivered to hospitals in the state capital of Katsina, while others have gone to Kankara General Hospital.
Although he was unable to estimate their number, another local source said that some terrorists were killed in the deadly encounter.

A bunch of bandits from Zamfara arrived for a celebration and afterwards assaulted Majifa village, according to information obtained by SP Gambo Isah, spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command.
Gambo also mentioned that the police are monitoring the situation along with their sister security organisations, and they have promised to send further information as soon as it becomes available.
Terrorists have recently been relentlessly attacking communities in Katsina State’s Kankara LGA.
The massacre of approximately 100 individuals on February 2, 2023, when ‘Yan Sakai’ vigilante members rushed into an ambush during the Bakori-Kankara Crisis is notable among them.
Earlier this year, as you may recall, three ladies were kidnapped while they were making their way to church at Gidan Haruna in Kankara. Police have not yet confirmed whether or not they have been freed.
