Mike Ozekhome, Nnamdi Kanu’s principal attorney and the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has issued a warning against the activist’s continuing imprisonment.
Despite the courts, Kanu must be freed from detention soon, according to Ozekhome, or Nigeria would fall apart.
He gave the warning while speaking with Igbo leaders in Atlanta, Georgia, in the US.
Ozekhome guaranteed that Kanu’s release will not worsen the regional unrest.
We are at the Supreme Court, and it will rectify the injustice because no one will frighten the Supreme Court, according to Ozekhome.
They will need to take action to prevent Nigeria from falling apart.
“I have assured the court that releasing Kanu won’t destabilize the region or cause the South East to fall apart. Instead, that is what will quiet the Southeast.
Despite a court decision ordering the agitator’s release, the Nigerian government has failed to do so.
Since June 2021, when he was detained in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria, Kanu had been jailed.
A few months ago, the Nigerian government was mandated to free Kanu by the Abuja Appeal Court.
The Nigerian government, however, challenged the court’s decision.
