According to the government, fiscal year 2023 saw the highest level of illegal immigration ever.

In September, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) captured a record 269,735 illegal aliens, the government revealed in a report released on Saturday. The sum surpasses the previous record, which was achieved in May 2022.

According to official statistics, fiscal year 2023 also broke the previous record for illegal immigration into the US, with 2.47 million recorded migrant contacts surpassing even 2022’s record-breaking 2.3 million.

In 2023, there were 169 migrants who had been stopped by CBP in total, which is more than double the amount from the previous year. At the border, fentanyl seizures increased by almost double, from 14,600 pounds (or 6,600kg) to 27,000 pounds (or just over 12,000kg). In total, 15,267 “criminal noncitizens” were detained.

Using the smartphone app it launched in January with the goal of accelerating the application process, CBP processed nearly 43,000 asylum claimants in 2023, in addition to the record number of illegal immigration. Under US President Joe Biden’s new “parole” system, which was established last year to expedite the entry of migrants fleeing nations whose governments Washington considers unfriendly, another 240,000 new entrants from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Haiti crossed the border legally this year.

The first two weeks of October marked the beginning of a fall in migrant interactions, according to CBP, which recorded a 20% decrease during this time. Over 300,000 people have been turned away by the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement since May as part of a recent increase in removals of rejected asylum seekers and other unauthorised people.

Don’t do it, CBP advised “anyone who is thinking of entering the United States illegally along the Southwest border,” in a “simple” statement contained in Saturday’s report. Noncitizens risk their lives by illegally crossing the border. Agents reported saving 4,633 migrants “in distress” in September alone, a 44% rise over August.

An extraordinary 16% increase in the number of foreigners living unlawfully in the country has been attributed to the Biden administration’s reversal of the immigration crackdown implemented by its predecessor, Donald Trump, according to critics.

Tens of thousands of recent immigrants are being dumped on their doorstep by the busload or planeload, placing an increased burden on so-called “sanctuary cities” like New York that previously swore off enforcing immigration rules. Republican governors of border areas where illegal immigration is already a problem urge that the federal government address the problem.

However, the Biden administration’s requests for assistance from local governments have mostly gone unmet, leading hundreds of cities, towns, and even states to declare emergencies due to the massive humanitarian disaster playing out in their streets.
