Peter Obi Offers Guidance to Tinubu Administration on Tax Reform
Peter Obi shares strategic insights for the Tinubu government on implementing effective tax reforms to boost Nigeria’s economy and ensure fairness.
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has called on the National Assembly to involve Nigerians in discussions about tax reform. He emphasized that these reforms should not solely benefit the government.
Obi emphasized the importance of transparency in the federal government’s proposed tax reform, noting that implementing such reforms can be beneficial.
The former Governor of Anambra State emphasized that tax reform is a crucial issue, stating on X, “there is nothing wrong with pursuing it.”

Obi, however, emphasized that the public should have the opportunity to participate in meaningful discussions about these reforms.
“A public hearing on tax reform is crucial, providing an opportunity for Nigerians from diverse backgrounds to engage constructively. This approach fosters public trust and guarantees inclusivity in policy development,” Obi stated.
When evaluating tax reforms and related matters, it is inadequate to concentrate only on the advantages for the government, especially regarding boosting revenue collection.
We must also consider the broader effects on the country and ensure sustainability across all its regions.
“Trust and legitimacy form the basis of effective governance, he stated; without them, even the most well-intentioned reforms might not succeed.”
