Shinkafi criticizes Northern governors for opposing tax reform bills, labeling them as lazy and accusing them of contributing to the rising insecurity in the regions.

Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, the Executive Director of Patriots for Advancement of Peace and Social Development, has criticized the northern governors who are opposing the proposed tax reform bills.

During an interview with Arise TV on Monday, Shinkafi characterized the governors as “lazy” and reluctant to devise strategies for generating internal revenue.

He stated that the governors asserting that tax bills will exacerbate hardship in the northern part of the country “are to blame for economic failure, persistent insecurity, unemployment, poverty, and educational setbacks in the region.”

Shinkafi vigorously defended the controversial tax reform bills amid criticism, especially from northern governors. He described the opposition as politically driven and rooted in misinformation.

Shinkafi also remarked that “the attack by the Northern Youth Assembly is unwarranted,” emphasizing that the Deputy Senate President was simply carrying out his constitutional responsibilities while presiding over the proceedings.
