Bashir Ishaq Bashir, a governorship candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in Kano state, has formally announced his support for the APC and resigned from the party.

Bashir gave up his support for Peter Obi, the LP’s presidential candidate, over the weekend and said he would support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s candidate, no matter what.

He announced his choice at a conference at the Horizon Hotel in Kano, where he also gave the rationale behind the boycott of the LP presidential rally he and other LP chieftains had organised for the day of January 22 at the Kano Pillars stadium in the Sabon Gari neighbourhood of Kano.

Using the motto “Sabon Lale” (Swinging the Votes) and his platform, Bashir promised to support Tinubu and other APC candidates in Kano. He is known as the game changer for Asiwaju/Shettima 2023.

We would rejoin the APC, he added, noting that the steering committee meeting had just ended and that the feedback from our constituencies had been discussed.

The following decisions were made: “We have chosen to support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s candidature as a coalition of Labour Party (LP) candidates for governor, senator, house of representatives, and house of assembly, as well as for president and members of the governorship campaign council.

In order to assure Tinubu’s election as president of Nigeria, we have also decided to make use of our current political infrastructure to concentrate on voter registration drives and vote swings.

“By Asiwaju/Shettima 2023, we’ll be renowned as game changers.” “Sabon Lale” is our motto. shifting the vote. We will rejoin the APC’s ranks.

Bashir cited a number of factors as to why he left the LP for the APC, including the fact that on January 27, we had voiced our concern that neither I, the candidate for governor of Kano State, nor any of my colleagues or acquaintances, had been consulted on significant Labour Party issues.
