Trump Condemns ‘Shocking’ Pardon of Hunter Biden
Former President Donald Trump expresses outrage over the controversial pardon of Hunter Biden, calling it a ‘shocking’ decision that raises questions about political accountability.
US President-elect Donald Trump and congressional Republicans have criticized outgoing President Joe Biden for pardoning his son, Hunter Biden. Hunter was convicted of illegal gun purchases and tax evasion, with sentencing in both cases scheduled for this month.
Although he had previously stated that he would not get involved in his son’s legal matters, the president reversed his stance by granting a pardon on Sunday evening. He described the convictions as “a miscarriage of justice,” asserting that Hunter Biden was “singled out” due to his connection with the presidency.
As stated by the White House, the pardon encompasses all offenses either committed or potentially committed from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024. This timeframe includes allegations made by Republicans that Hunter Biden served as “a bagman” for his father in purportedly illegal business transactions in China and Ukraine. Both the president and his son have denied these claims.
The Republicans, who have consistently alleged that the Biden administration engages in prosecutions driven by political agendas, expressed their disapproval of the pardon.

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Trump, stated that “The unsuccessful witch hunts against President Trump demonstrate that the Democrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system.”
He added, “The justice system needs to be repaired and due process restored for all Americans, which is precisely what President Trump will accomplish when he returns to the White House with a strong mandate from the American people.”
Trump drew a comparison between the handling of legal matters involving the president’s son and the prosecution faced by his own supporters who breached the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to overturn the results of that year’s presidential election. He questioned whether “the pardon given by Joe to Hunter includes those from J-6 who have been held as prisoners for years,” criticizing it as “an abuse and miscarriage of justice!” he remarked on Truth Social.
Numerous leading Republicans in Congress were dismayed, with Senator Chuck Grassley expressing that he was “shocked” by Biden’s decision.
“This pardon is Joe Biden’s acknowledgment of Hunter being a criminal,” Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene posted on X. Congressman Andy Biggs commented that “Joe Biden will be remembered as one of the most corrupt presidents in American history.”
Senator Josh Hawley wrote on X, “This is an egregious misuse of the rule of law—all aimed at safeguarding the Biden family’s business of selling access and influence.”
The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, led by Republicans, issued a statement claiming that “Joe Biden’s unprecedented abuse of power has tarnished the honor of the US presidency.”
