Troops Overrun Bandit Camps in Taraba, Recover Ammunition

Nigerian troops dismantle deadly bandit camps in Taraba State, seizing weapons and ammunition in a major operation to restore peace in the region.

Soldiers from the 6 Brigade, Sector 3, participating in Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have disbanded multiple bandit hideouts and seized arms and ammunition in Taraba State.

The news was revealed in a statement released on Sunday in Jalingo by Capt. Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations.

As stated, the operations were led by Brig. Gen. Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the Brigade, and aimed at various sites associated with bandit activities.

“The statement disclosed that Operation OP GOLDEN PEACE was initiated following thorough patrols, clearance missions, and consultations with key stakeholders, achieving significant results in the northern region of the state.”

The most recent phase of the operation, commencing on November 28, concentrated on Takum Local Government Area and specifically targeted well-known hideouts like Lijam High Ground.

During the mission, troops reportedly dismantled bandit camps and retrieved several items: 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, a handheld Baofeng radio, and two motorcycles.

The statement added that on November 30, to enhance the safety of residents, troops expanded their operations to include the Akume and Ananum areas in Donga Local Government Area, demonstrating their dedication to protecting lives and property throughout the state.

Brigadier General Uwa praised the troops for their efforts and encouraged them to remain vigilant.

“The commander stated that collaboratively, we will guarantee peace and security throughout Taraba State and beyond.”

He highlighted the significance of these operations in establishing a safe environment for both the ongoing harvest season and the forthcoming festive period.

“This is our resolute endeavor to prevent Taraba from becoming a haven for criminal elements,” he added.
