A devastating fire at a nightclub in North Macedonia has claimed the lives of 51 people, with several others injured. Authorities are investigating the cause of the tragedy.
According to officials, a nightclub fire in North Macedonia has resulted in the deaths of at least 51 people and injuries to over 100 others.
The fire reportedly ignited at approximately 03:00 (02:00 GMT) at the Pulse club in Kocani, a town located about 100 km (60 miles) east of Skopje, the capital. Videos shared on social media depict the building consumed by flames.
It was reported that up to 1,500 people were attending a concert by ADN, a popular hip-hop duo in the country.
According to local media reports, the fire might have been sparked by pyrotechnic devices. Footage reveals that sparks from the stage ignited on the ceiling and quickly spread. Interior Minister Pance Toskovski stated that several arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
In a Facebook statement, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expressed that the government is “fully mobilized and committed to taking all necessary actions to address the aftermath of this tragedy and identify its causes.”
He described it as a “difficult and very sad day” for the country, which has now lost “so many” young lives.
