Terrorists Attack Iranian Consulate in Syria, Says Tehran
Iran reports a terrorist attack on its consulate in Syria, condemning the act and urging international action to ensure diplomatic safety.
According to the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry, Iran’s consulate in Aleppo, Syria, was attacked by “some terrorist elements” on Saturday. This occurred as a former local Al Qaeda affiliate initiated a significant offensive against the city earlier in the week.
The diplomatic mission was targeted by armed militants, according to ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei. He informed journalists that the Iranian consul general and all diplomatic staff in Aleppo remained unharmed.
Baghaei stated that Tehran is prepared to issue a “serious” response to the attack, addressing it “both legally and internationally.” However, the spokesman did not offer any specifics about the incident.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a terrorist organization previously known as Jabhat al-Nusra, launched an assault on government-held areas in Northern Syria on Wednesday with support from various allied militias. The group later claimed to have captured approximately 400 square kilometers of territory and advanced toward the city of Aleppo.
Since then, government forces have stopped the group’s advance. Both the Russian and Syrian Air Forces launched strikes against the militants in recent days. The Syrian Arab Army also reported that these strikes caused significant losses to the insurgents.
Moscow described the events as “an infringement on Syria’s regional sovereignty” and encouraged Damascus to reestablish “order promptly.” Meanwhile, Iran labeled the assault as an “American-Zionist” scheme, implying that Washington and West Jerusalem were utilizing HTS as proxies to weaken President Bashar Assad’s administration, which upholds support for the Palestinian cause.
