Tambuwal Criticizes Timing of Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bill
Aminu Tambuwal voices concerns over the timing of President Tinubu’s tax reform bill, urging a reconsideration to address economic pressures on Nigerians.
Aminu Tambuwal, the former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator for Sokoto South, has expressed criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bill. He argued that its introduction is ill-timed due to the economic difficulties currently confronting Nigerians.
On Sunday, Tambuwal shared his thoughts as he distributed relief materials to flood victims and provided starter packs to over 1,000 individuals who benefited from a skills acquisition program in his senatorial district.
While speaking at the event, he stated, “I would like to take advantage of this platform to discuss the currently pressing issue of tax reform as introduced by President Bola Tinubu.”
I think it’s not a suitable moment for increasing VAT or any other type of tax; the timing is inopportune and quite unfavorable.
These are challenging times for the people of Nigeria, and they face significant difficulties. We urge the government to concentrate on initiatives that will provide comfort and relief rather than add to their burdens.

We are currently experiencing difficulties due to the devaluation of the naira and the removal of fuel subsidies implemented by this government. I believe we should concentrate on addressing these challenges and work towards alleviating our people’s suffering.
Recent data from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics indicates that over 30 million Nigerians are currently living in extreme poverty.
While in Shagari, the senator worked alongside the National Emergency Management Agency to distribute relief materials to over a thousand households affected by flooding and other natural disasters.
Furthermore, in Bodinga, the senator collaborated with the National Directorate of Employment to offer skills training for more than 1,000 young individuals across diverse fields.
