All commercial motorbike and tricycle operators have until December 31 to register with the Oyo State Residents’ Registration Scheme, according to a deadline imposed by the Oyo State Government.
In order to do this, as of January 1, 2024, no rider of an unregistered motorbike or tricycle will be permitted to operate in the state.
This order was issued by the state’s governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde, shortly after the Security Council meeting on Wednesday.
All commercial operators, he said, will be required to wear reflective jackets at all times.
He emphasised that the decision will be strictly enforced by the state administration.

The governor stated that the action tackled the threat of insecurity related to tricycle and commercial motorbike operations in the state.
Makinde stated that in order to protect that state, all riders of commercial motorcycles and tricycles must make sure that they are registered under the state’s programme, which collects biometric data such as names, motorcycle registration numbers, next of kin information, and other vital details.
Recall that the Oyo State Residents’ Registration Scheme was launched in the first term of the Makinde administration, with 50 centres located throughout the state at motor parks and okada parks serving as registration points for commercial operators.
