Tricycle drivers, sometimes referred to as Keke NAPEP, once more organised a nonviolent demonstration in front of the Abia State Government House in Umuahia.

About 75 transporters claimed to be in charge of the state government’s recently implemented online ticket payment system due to recurrent issues with access.

The demonstration on Tuesday is the second one in a week; the first was on last Thursday.

The tricycle drivers gathered in front of the government building, parking their vehicles on the two flanks between the UBA intersection and Zenith Bank regions.

Some of the Keke NAPEP guys, including Okwuchi Zubi, Onyedikachi Matthew, and Chibuzor Uguru, claimed that the ticket enforcement officers and some other touts were harassing them as a result of the problem.

“They first informed us that the online ticket had been momentarily suspended last week. We were informed the following day that the portal was still operational, but several of us continued to access it through the portal, according to Uguru.

They also urged the state government to address the network issues the programme was having, stating that they would always be willing to make the purchase of tickets.

The Keke NAPEP men were spotted being calmed down by police at the government building.

Ikechuckwu Emetu, the State’s deputy governor, had instructed tricycle drivers on Saturday to keep using the online ticketing system.

The deputy governor advised the Keke NAPEP operators to contact the appropriate government revenue agency for more information on how to go about the daily ticket payment in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Chukwudi Eke Mba. He added that their compliance with the directive would save them discomfort.

The Keke men were still in front of the government building when this report was filed, requesting that senior government figures address them before they dispersed.
