The need of retrieving public properties that were fraudulently obtained by friends and associates of the former administration was underlined by Governor Yusuf.

Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has defended the demolition project his administration has been working on since he took office on May 29.

During Sallah homage by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and members of the emirate council, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the exercise and highlighted that the demolition exercise is done to recover public properties.

According to a statement made by Hisham Habib, the governor’s spokeswoman, Governor Yusuf stressed the significance of retrieving public properties that had been unlawfully obtained by friends and associates of the former administration.

In his address, he said, “Your Highness, it is important for the emirate council to note that we embarked on the demolition exercise to reclaim public properties that were illegally acquired, and we will ensure that all such properties are restored for the benefit of the good people of Kano.”

Since it was the first of its sort since he took office, the Governor thanked the Emir and the emirate council for their visit.

He used the occasion to highlight a number of his administration’s accomplishments during the previous 31 days.

Among these successes were the 1.5 billion naira payment of NECO fees for 55,000 secondary school students, the reinstatement of streetlights, and a decline in phone theft in the Kano city.

The Governor also spoke about the successful removal of hundreds of tons of garbage from the city, the restarting of the screening procedure for giving international scholarships to Kano natives with first-class degrees, and making sure that salaries and pensions were paid on time.

The Emir replied that he would want to celebrate Eid Kabir with the Governor and informed him that he was ready to offer suggestions for the advancement of the state.

In addition, he asked the government and wealthy people to help others who were less fortunate, especially in view of the recent elimination of fuel subsidies.
