Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara hints at running for a fourth term, fueling speculation about his political future in the West African nation.

President Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast has indicated that he is considering the possibility of running for another term, although his party has yet to make an official decision regarding the 2025 election.

On Thursday, January 8, during a speech to diplomats in Abidjan, Ouattara said, “I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country,” hinting more clearly than ever at the possibility of running again.

The 83-year-old leader, who won a contentious third term in 2020, has previously indicated his wish to step down. However, he suggested that this decision might hinge on whether his longstanding political adversaries also choose to retire from politics.

In September, his party expressed support for another candidacy by Ouattara; however, an official announcement has not yet been made. The presidential election in Ivory Coast is set to take place in October.
