EFCC Returns Recovered Assets to Enugu State Government

On Wednesday, the EFCC the EFCC transferred 14 properties previously forfeited to the Federal Government to the Enugu State Government at the request of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration. 

The properties were officially handed over to Governor Mbah by the Executive Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, in a brief ceremony held at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja. 

Governor Mbah expressed his commitment to utilizing the recovered assets for the maximum benefit of the people of Enugu State. 

During the event, Olukoyede highlighted that the process leading to the forfeiture of the properties began in 2007, emphasizing the mutually beneficial relationship between the federal government and states. 

The EFCC Chairman commended Governor Mbah for his efforts in Enugu State and mentioned the President’s interest in the proposed state-of-the-art hospital, indicating that the medical facilities among the released assets would contribute significantly to realizing Governor Mbah’s vision for the state and beyond.

The handover of the properties signifies a collaborative partnership between the federal government and state governments, demonstrating effective governance in Nigeria.

Olukoyede mentioned that the history of the matter dates back to 2007, when the prosecution began, making it approximately 17 years since the issue arose. Despite some properties being forfeited and managed by the EFCC, the titles of several properties were revoked by the Enugu State government.

Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for facilitating the return of the assets to the government and people of Enugu State, emphasizing the importance of the event and the assets being forfeited to the federal government.

The governor acknowledged President Tinubu’s proactive role in responding to the request to return the assets to Enugu State, highlighting the significance of the assets being utilized for the state’s benefit.

Governor Mbah assured that all properties would be used for the people of Enugu State, praising Olukoyede’s efforts in strengthening the EFCC and the agency’s role in releasing the properties to the state.
