46 Kidnapped in Zamfara Following Gunmen’s Attack on Gana Town

Gunmen storm Gana town in Zamfara State, abducting 46 residents in the latest wave of insecurity in the region. Authorities are working to address the crisis.

At least 46 people, including women and children, were abducted during a violent attack in Gana town, Zamfara State, on Sunday night.

According to residents, the incident took place around 10 p.m. when numerous gunmen on motorcycles invaded the community and set fire to homes and businesses.

While authorities have not yet issued an official statement, traditional leader Alhaji Garba Haure confirmed the incident to Reuters, detailing the extent of destruction and the trauma faced by affected residents.

“We have a total of 46 men, women, and children who have been abducted so far, with numbers still rising,” Haure stated.

He stated that the swift action by government security forces stopped the assailants from setting fire to the entire town, also noting that no lives were lost during the attack.

However, another resident, Bala Harauma, mentioned to Reuters that the true number of abducted individuals might be greater.

“Six individuals managed to escape while the armed gang relocated the captives early Monday morning,” Harauma stated.

Yusuf Mohammed, another resident, described how the bandits set fire to numerous houses and silos filled with food supplies.

The Northwestern region has been facing a significant security crisis, as terrorist and bandit groups continue to disrupt local communities.

These groups have carried out numerous violent attacks, leading to a significant loss of life and extensive kidnappings.
