2027: Lamido Declines El-Rufai’s Invitation to Join SDP
Former Jigawa governor Sule Lamido rejects Nasir El-Rufai’s invitation to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Sule Lamido, the former Governor of Jigawa State, has declined an invitation from Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In an interview with BBC Hausa on Sunday, Lamido expressed that he viewed the invitation as insulting.
The former governor of Jigawa State also mentioned that the PDP established the groundwork for El-Rufai’s political career.
The party we established, the PDP, is what led to El-Rufai’s rise. You alone aren’t enough reason for us to abandon it.
He mentioned before that there are no adults in Nigerian politics, yet now he’s inviting us to join him in the SDP.
Lamido also questioned El-Rufai’s reasons for leaving the APC to join the SDP, as well as his leadership style.
Lamido emphasized his loyalty to the PDP, stating that the opposition party has not given him any reason to consider defection.
According to reports, El-Rufai, who recently left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the SDP, urged opposition leaders in a BBC Hausa interview to join the SDP.
While El-Rufai did not specifically mention Lamido’s name, he extended invitations to prominent opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola to join the SDP.
