At an aviation show in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, a mid-flight accident claimed the lives of two aircraft. A tragic catastrophe occurred when the flight paths of a B-17 bomber and a smaller fighter aircraft collided.
During the incident, a Bell P-63 Kingcobra entered the four-engined B-17’s path at great speed when it was flying low over Dallas Executive Airport. On collision, both airplanes disintegrated, and they both blew up as they came to rest.
At least one of the pilots seemed to open a parachute as a shower of debris fell down.
The pilots’ condition is presently unknown, and as of the time of writing, there had been no reports of injuries from the falling debris. During the war, B-17 bombers normally carried a crew of 10, however the crew composition of the wrecked aircraft is still unknown.
The incident happened during Wings Over Dallas, an annual event that includes historical reenactments, military vehicles, and aircraft from the Second World War.
