Prior to the opening of the Mgbutanwo Internal Roads in the Emohua Local Government Area on Monday, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike welcomed NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso to Port Harcourt, the state’s capital, on Sunday night.

In the oil-rich South-South state, Wike has asked representatives from opposition parties to oversee construction projects.
The governor of Rivers said he invited opposition leaders to launch projects in his state so they could witness them personally and report back to their party members.

Adams Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday dedicated the eighth flyover in the state, which is situated on Ada George Road and close to Wike’s private house in Rumueprikom, a rural community in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

On Thursday, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president, also dedicated the ninth flyover at the well-known Ikoku crossroads.

Similarly, on Friday, President Muhammadu Buhari officially opened the Nigeria Law School’s Port Harcourt campus.

Wike and the other four governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), collectively known as the G5, have been calling for Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation for months, arguing that northerners shouldn’t serve as the party’s national chairman and presidential candidate.

Ayu, a native of Benue, has stated that he will remain in office till the conclusion of his four-year term, even though the G5 made Ayu’s resignation a requirement before endorsing Atiku Abubakar’s bid for the presidency in 2023.

Even though Wike and his associates haven’t been spotted supporting Atiku, it’s unclear if they’ll back the APC’s Bola Tinubu or Obi in the fight for Aso Rock’s top post, which experts and attentive watchers have dubbed a “three-horse race.”
