Wedding Guests Abducted on Kwara Highway
Tragedy strikes in Kwara as armed assailants abduct wedding guests traveling on a highway. Authorities are working to secure their release amidst growing concerns over safety.
At least five people were allegedly kidnapped by gunmen on Saturday in Obbo-Ayegunle, located within the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The victims were on their way back to their base in Odo-Owa after attending a wedding ceremony in the neighboring Ope town, Kogi State, when they were abducted around 4 p.m.
The group comprises Oloye Oyewole Abolarin, the leader of hunters in Odo-Owa, and his wife Funmilayo Abolarin; Tunde Oladipo and his spouse; along with another individual named Bose. All are from the Agbele Igbede compound within the Odo-Owa community.
The kidnappers have contacted the family, demanding a ransom of N100 million for their release.
Reports indicate that family members and the community have begun contributing to meet the demands of the kidnappers.
They have additionally called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the security agencies to assist in rescuing the family.
An unverified report suggested that another kidnapping incident took place on Monday along the Omu-Aran highway.
Attempts to contact DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, the spokesperson for the state police command headquarters in Ilorin, on Tuesday were unsuccessful. Phone calls and a text message went unanswered by the time this report was filed.
