UPDATED: Tension Erupts at PDP BoT Meeting as Anyanwu, Ude-Okoye Loyalists Clash Over Position
Chaos unfolds at the PDP Board of Trustees meeting as supporters of Samuel Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye engage in a heated confrontation over leadership positions.
At the 79th Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), tempers rose when supporters associated with National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and his rival, Hon. Sunday Udo-Okoye, became involved in a fierce altercation.
The disorder started when Anyanwu’s supporters, who were already seated in the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) Hall, protested against Udo-Okoye’s presence by claiming he was not a member of the Board of Trustees.
The situation intensified when Emmanuel Okoronkwo, one of Anyanwu’s aides, forcefully removed Udo-Okoye from the hall.
Facing a disadvantage in numbers, Udo-Okoye urged his supporters to rally, with some attempting to scale the Secretariat fence and push their way back into the hall. Nonetheless, armed security personnel intervened to prevent any further disruptions and managed to temporarily restore order.
Amidst the commotion, the meeting proceeded with Anyanwu seated at the high table alongside BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara and Acting National Chairman Umar Damagun.
Dressed in blue national attire with a red cap, Udo-Okoye initially took a seat at the far end of the high table and remained there throughout the opening session.
In his speech, BoT Chairman Senator Wabara encouraged members to put personal interests aside to maintain the unity of the party. Likewise, Acting Chairman Damagun admonished party leaders for contributing to internal divisions and urged them to engage in self-reflection and make sacrifices necessary for the survival of the PDP.
At the time of this report’s submission, three army pickup trucks had reached the venue and were stationed just meters from the hall as security maintained a state of high alert. The BoT meeting was continuing under increased security measures.
