According to Chris Isiguzo, the president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, or NUJ, the nation’s issues predate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, and he is pleading with Nigerians to support it.

Isiguzo made these remarks on Tuesday in Umuahia, during a special congress of the Abia State NUJ Council.

He said that Nigerians should be patriotic by supporting the Federal Government’s initiatives as Tinubu has been proclaimed as the legitimately elected President by both the Supreme Court and the election results.

Isiguzo asked the people of Nigeria to have patience and faith in the Tinubu government.

“We need to exercise patience; the issues facing Nigeria were not caused by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has only been in office for six months. We also need to have patience with the administration as citizens who respect their own government, he added.

Additionally, he cautioned Nigerian media not to write or publish anything that could bring about the country’s destruction.

In order to avoid getting caught in the web of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Act, the President of NUJ recommended journalists to carry out their tasks in a professional manner.

He pointed out that if a journalist writes or publishes offensive items, they could face consequences because the National Assembly hasn’t yet abolished the objectionable Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Act.

Isiguzo revealed that he was successful in getting certain journalists who had been detained in several states due to reports they had written released.

While praising the NUJ leadership in Abia State for fostering harmony, Isiguzo stated that rather than locking up offending journalists, the national leadership of NUJ is establishing a National Media Complaint Commission, a co-regulatory body where a grieving party can report a journalist who published offensive material.
