Tension Flares at PDP BoT Meeting as Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye Clash
Chaos erupted at the PDP Board of Trustees meeting as members Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye engaged in a heated altercation. Get the latest details on the unfolding drama within the party.
A minor incident occurred during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday when Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye had a disagreement over the disputed National Secretary position.
The opposition party, already dealing with several crises, held the high-stakes meeting at its National Headquarters in Abuja.
The BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, officially opened the session at precisely 12:05 p.m.
Anyanwu was there at the start of the meeting, whereas Ude-Okoye arrived with noticeable tension five minutes later, at 12:10 p.m., creating an intense atmosphere.
Soon after, the meeting transitioned into a closed-door session as tensions intensified over the continuing leadership struggle.
Remember that in 2023, the PDP’s South East zone chose former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye to succeed Anyanwu as National Secretary when he was selected as the party’s candidate for the Imo State governorship election.
The South East PDP argued that Anyanwu should be removed from his position due to his selection as the Imo candidate, which has led to increased controversy.
On December 20, 2024, the Appeal Court in Enugu confirmed Ude-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary. The decision was officially conveyed to the party leadership on December 24.
Last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order requiring Anyanwu to continue serving as National Secretary until the Supreme Court decides on the appeal.
