A fuel tanker explosion has rocked Abuja, causing widespread panic. Discover the full details and impact of this tragic incident.

Following a collision with a commercial bus, a fuel-laden tanker exploded on Monday evening along Shehu Shagari Way in the affluent Maitama neighborhood of Abuja.

Drivers abandoned their cars and ran for safety as a result of the incident, which happened close to the Nicon Hotel and created considerable panic.

An X user going under the handle #Southsouthboy3 said that the explosion caused heavy traffic, which affected MTN and Chicken House, among other neighboring areas.

As emergency personnel raced to the scene to control the crisis and guarantee public safety, the traffic jams contributed to the mayhem.

Although the authorities have not yet made an official announcement regarding the incident, work is still being done to put out the fire and clear the road.

Although there are currently no reports of casualties, the explosion’s intensity has prompted questions about safety precautions on Abuja’s congested roads.

“A tanker filled with gasoline has burst in Maitama, a wealthy neighborhood of Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. The event happened along Shehu Shagari Way, injuring a few people inside a commercial vehicle. On the crowded route, many drivers abandoned their cars and fled for their lives. On X, Southsouthboy3 posted, “The situation caused gridlock on various roads, including those connecting Farmers Market, Nicon Hilton Hotel, MTN, and Chicken House.”

The AP Filling Station-owned tanker overturned at the Maitama Roundabout, close to the MTN Office, after colliding with a Sienna car, which resulted in the fire, according to Amiola Adebayo, Director of the FCT Fire Service, who spoke with our correspondent.

He mentioned that two of the Sienna’s occupants had been treated at a hospital.

“We were notified about the fire at approximately 6:20 p.m.,” he stated. Near the MTN Office, near Maitama Roundabout, the PMS tanker capsized. By 7:50 p.m., the fire was under control. AP Filling Station, which is located across from the Nicon Hilton Hotel, owns the tanker.
