The Sudanese Army has clashed with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over control of an oil refinery near Khartoum, escalating tensions in the ongoing conflict.

The Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are engaged in intense clashes near the strategically important al-Jili oil refinery, situated north of Khartoum.

On Wednesday, the army revealed its progress towards the refinery in a multi-faceted offensive strategy to reclaim territory in the region. Reports suggest that the clashes have been direct and intense.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing large areas of Khartoum covered in plumes of smoke, while videos shared on social media depicted army forces seizing control of the nearby town’s entrance.

At the same time, conflict has broken out in the city of el-Fasher. Earlier this week, tensions intensified when the RSF gave a 48-hour ultimatum for the army to withdraw from its final stronghold in that region.

After the ultimatum expired, the Sudanese army launched airstrikes against RSF positions, as reported by a military source.
