Stampede in Doha Leaves Dozens Injured – Reports
According to reports from Sputnik and Xinhua on Wednesday, numerous individuals sustained injuries during a stampede after New Year’s Eve festivities in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Witnesses provided these accounts.
The incident is said to have taken place at a subway station in Lusail, a suburb of Doha, following a fireworks show and an outdoor concert featuring live DJs. Media reports indicate that as people hurried towards the station near Lusail Boulevard to catch the last trains before closing time, several were injured in a stampede.
Emergency medical teams were reportedly dispatched to the scene. Videos posted on X allegedly depict doctors attending to the injured in the subway station after the stampede.
The local authorities have not provided any comments on the incident yet, and precise details are still unavailable.
This marks the third occasion that Lusail Boulevard, situated north of Doha and extending 1.3 kilometers, has hosted New Year’s celebrations.
Reports suggested that although the Qatari government initially extended the event until 2:00am local time, it concluded at 1:00am.
