Last month, South Korea experienced its most severe aviation disaster on home territory when a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 traveling from Thailand to Muan crash-landed and erupted into flames after colliding with a concrete barrier on December 29.

In that crash, 179 of the 181 passengers and crew members on board lost their lives.
