President Tinubu: Global Collaboration Is Essential for Sustainable Development
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasizes the importance of global partnerships in achieving sustainable development during a recent address, urging nations to work together for a better future.
On Wednesday in the United Arab Emirates, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assured a global audience that Nigeria is prepared to collaborate with other nations to create a resilient, equitable, and sustainable world for everyone.
On the second day of the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, President Tinubu delivered a speech titled “From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future.”
The president stated that achieving sustainability is not a journey any single nation can undertake by itself, emphasizing the necessity of collective action, knowledge sharing, and mutual support due to our global interconnectedness.
Addressing climate change is not just an environmental imperative; it’s also a global economic opportunity to transform the future of our continent and redefine the world’s energy landscape.
“As leaders, stakeholders, and citizens of our planet, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment in human history. To achieve success, we need to innovate, collaborate, and take decisive action as a unified global community,” he stated.
Emphasizing his administration’s dedication to cutting carbon emissions, President Tinubu assured the audience that the Nigerian government has crafted actionable programs aligned with global standards, while considering Nigeria’s economic and political goals.
Our vision for sustainability harmonizes with global goals and addresses the specific needs of our community. We focus on three main pillars: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development. My administration understands the critical need to lower carbon emissions through a fair shift towards clean and renewable energy sources while fostering environmental health alongside economic progress.
Our energy transition strategies, similar to those of many other countries, focus on diversifying our energy sources and decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. We prioritize the shift to cleaner energy as a fundamental element of our national development plan.
He mentioned that Nigeria is building infrastructure to promote the widespread adoption of Compressed Natural Gas and electric vehicles, while also leveraging solid minerals’ potential to aid in the green energy transition.
The Nigerian leader emphasized that the country is adopting climate-smart agricultural practices to boost food security and reduce harmful environmental effects. This effort includes launching the National Clean Cooking Policy, which seeks to advance clean energy use, promote environmental and health benefits, and foster socio-economic development across Africa.
President Tinubu stated that the government is collaborating with local communities to develop solutions aimed at alleviating the negative impacts of environmental challenges faced by the country, including deforestation, desertification, coastal erosion, flooding, and pollution.
He stated that these challenges pose a threat to the livelihoods of millions.
He urged partner countries to work together in pooling resources to address these challenges and adopt innovation and technology.
He emphasized that advancing a Green Economy in Africa requires prioritizing the integration of sustainable practices across all economic sectors. These initiatives demand substantial capital, necessitating international support from partner countries, multinational organizations, development partners, and individuals who share our vision for a sustainable, prosperous, and equitable future.
The President stated that Nigeria has become the first African nation to fund green projects using Sovereign Green Bond proceeds, with the third issuance currently underway. He encouraged investors to collaborate with them in these efforts, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for businesses in Nigeria.
By collaborating with global leaders and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we are discovering innovative solutions to tackle our environmental challenges. Our arable agricultural lands provide opportunities for advanced technological farming, paving the way for a promising future in Artificial Intelligence.
President Tinubu praised His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, for his invitation and foresight in organizing the event.
The event united world leaders to share their views and perspectives on collaboratively tackling the global challenges of our era.
