Police in Imo detain 15 individuals on suspicion of terrorism

The armed wing of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), has announced the arrest of fifteen alleged members, according to the Imo State Police Command.

The command spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, revealed this in a statement on Friday.

According to Okoye, several of the group members who had previously been detained by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad made admissions, which led to their arrest.

In a follow-up operation, he claims, the squad under the command of CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa apprehended the 15 suspects at their hiding places in the Obiangwu and Logara Forests in the Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the suspects had four shotguns built in the area, one cut-to-size double barrel shotgun, four rounds of live ammo, illegal substances, charms, and an AK-47 rifle loaded with 21 rounds.

“Several denominations of Biafra currency were equally recovered, along with one POS machine used to extort money from their victims, one improvised explosive device, one guinea fowl with fetish items on it, and one militia camouflage T-shirt,” he claimed.

Okoye went on to say that after a thorough investigation is finished, the accused will be charged.
