Passengers Survive as Max Air Plane Crash-Lands at Kano Airport

A Max Air plane crash-landed at Kano Airport, but all passengers escaped without fatalities. Learn more about the incident and the response from aviation authorities.

A Max Air Boeing 737-300, registered as flight number 5N-MBD, made a crash landing at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday night following the ignition of its front tire during touchdown.

The incident took place at around 10:19 p.m. The plane, arriving from Lagos, carried 53 passengers and six crew members. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.

Aliyu Inuwa Mansir, both a passenger and SolaceBase correspondent aboard the flight, shared his terrifying experience of when the aircraft skidded on the runway following a tire burst.

He commended the crew for their quick actions in securing the safety of all passengers.

“The moment the aircraft’s tire burst into flames, smoke engulfed the cabin. We quickly exited through the emergency door,” Mansir reported. “As we were disembarking, airport fire services had already begun spraying water to control the blaze.”

Malam Bello Ramalan, the Kano Station Manager of Max Air, confirmed that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated without any injuries.

“I deeply apologize for the inconvenience and am grateful that everyone on board is safe. Ensuring the safety of our passengers and crew continues to be our top priority,” stated Ramalan.

He mentioned that Max Air personnel adhered to standard emergency procedures, such as isolating the pilots and promptly coordinating with relevant investigative authorities.

“We are collaborating with the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Aircraft and Equipment Department (AED) to determine the cause of the incident. Initial findings indicate that a tire malfunction contributed to the mishap,” he stated.

Max Air has committed to helping passengers recover their luggage as the investigations proceed.
