One-Year-Old Boy and 14 Others Killed in Plateau Night Attack
A tragic night attack in Plateau State has claimed the lives of a one-year-old boy and 14 others. Authorities are investigating the incident, which has sparked outrage and calls for justice.
Fifteen people, including a one-year-old boy, were reportedly murdered in cold blood by assailants on Sunday night at Ri Do (also known as Gidan Ado), a hamlet within the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a press statement released in Jos and signed by Sam Jugo, the National Publicity Secretary, the leadership of the Irigwe Development Association reported an unprovoked nighttime attack on their community. Predominantly home to Irigwe Natives from Bassa, this hamlet was invaded by unidentified gunmen who tragically killed 15 people.
Several additional individuals were also seriously injured in the attack.
The leadership of the association voiced their concerns about the unprovoked attack occurring just hours before the holiday season. They urged security agencies to take measures to prevent such heinous acts and advised against any retaliatory actions.
At press time, the identities of the perpetrators remain unknown. To avoid preempting or interfering with ongoing investigations by security agencies, it would be unwise to speculate on their identities here.
The statement from the leadership of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA) expressed hope that security agencies will take necessary actions to prevent any potential future occurrences or reprisals, while also urging restraint on their side.
As the joint security task force, Operation Safe Haven, and the police have not yet commented on the attack, a mass burial for the victims has been conducted at the community burial ground.
