The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was ordered on Tuesday by a Federal High Court in Abuja to immediately begin the continuous voters registration (CVR) program until 90 days before the 2023 general elections.

In a ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo also gave the INEC instructions to make sure that eligible Nigerians don’t lose their chance to get a voter’s card for the next election.

According to Justice Ekwo, the electoral umpire has a constitutional duty to ensure that the election is conducted in conformity with Nigerian law.

The judge said, “The plaintiffs’ case prevails on merit.”

According to NAN, Anajat Salmat and three other people sued INEC as the only defendant in a case with the filing number FHC/ABJ/CS/1343/2022.

The plaintiffs maintained that INEC cannot halt the CVR in violation of the established constitutional provisions in the original summons submitted to the court.

They pleaded with the court to direct the electoral umpire to continue the process in conformity with national law.
