The management staff of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), led by Mr. Khalil Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, has been tasked with coming up with ways that NASENI can effectively support the priorities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, such as the widespread conversion of petrol and diesel-powered vehicles to alternative fuels to lower the cost of living for Nigerians.
This was said when the Managing Directors of the Agency’s 10 Development Institutes, located in Enugu, Minna, Awka, Okene, Nnewi, Kano, Jalingo, Akure, Ilesha, and Nasarawa, began to brief him.
Halilu stated that “Our Institutes are the engines of NASENI’s innovation and these briefings by each Institute are critical as we work together to craft the future of NASENI, as it relates to delivering on the President’s socio-economic agenda.”
The Agency’s Research Directors and the Managing Directors delivered presentations to the EVC about their numerous projects and efforts, in addition to Team Leads of various NASENI initiatives.
Prior to the EVC’s scheduled tour of NASENI facilities across the institutes, which is set to begin in October, briefings have been held since Monday, September 18, 2023.
In addition, on Tuesday, September 19, the EVC/CEO established a Committee to examine employee welfare as part of his efforts to achieve his promise, made upon taking office, to make sure that NASENI becomes “a public sector employer of choice in Nigeria.”
The Committee, which was composed only of junior and middle-level NASENI employees, was given the assignment by the EVC to create a strategy for NASENI’s Human Resources (HR) revamp. “Our junior staff are indeed the ones on the front lines of our work, bearing the biggest burdens, and therefore deserving of special attention, support, and welfare,” the EVC claims.
On Friday, September 22, the EVC/CEO paid a courtesy call to the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja to wrap up the week.
In a statement about the meeting, which covered opportunities for cooperation in advancing research in methanol production, lithium mining, and alternative medicine, the EVC/CEO stated that both institutions were “keen to jointly commercialise existing research outputs,” adding that “I have no doubt that NASENI has a strong and committed partner, in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.”
Halilu also met with Mustapha Gajibo on Friday. Gajibo is a young Nigerian inventor with a base in Maiduguri, Borno State, and he specialises in converting gasoline-powered cars to run on gas and solar power. The EVC/CEO declared, “Young Nigerians can accomplish anything in science and technology, and at NASENI, we want to be a part of these inspiring stories from every area of the country.
