On Tuesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the Ondo State House of Assembly from impeaching Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa over suspected serious misconduct.
Shortly after Kayode Adewusi, the attorney for Aiyedatiwa, asked for an ex-parte hearing, Justice Emeka Nwite issued the decision.
In addition, the judge barred Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu from proposing a new deputy governor and sending it to the legislature for approval until the hearing and resolution of the main issue.
After hearing Adewusi, Justice Nwite declared that he believed that allowing the application would serve the interests of justice.
Therefore, he added, “the applicant’s application is successful.”
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the troubled deputy governor filed a lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) and the Department of State Services (DSS) with the following notification number: FHC/ABJ/CS/1294/2023.
Additionally, as the first through sixth respondents, respectively, are Governor Akeredoku, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Judge of Ondo State, and the House of Assembly.
Aiyedatiwa requested four reliefs in the application, which was dated and submitted by Mr. Adelanke Akinrata on September 21.
The judge also issued a temporary injunction prohibiting Akeredolu, his agents, or privies from intimidating, harassing, or impairing Aiyedatiwa in the course of his duties as the deputy governor of Ondo State.
All of the reliefs were granted by Justice Nwite, who continued the case for a hearing on October 9.
Aiyedatiwa had additionally asked the High Court in Akure in another petition with the case number AK/348/2023 to halt the state’s House of Assembly from moving forward with the impeachment proceedings against him while the case was being heard and decided.
