The former captain of Zambia, Enoch Mwepu, was taken to the Lusaka Cardiac Hospital because of a heart problem.

Mwepu was admitted to the hospital on Saturday morning after complaining of feeling ill.

In an interview with ZNBC Sports, Health Permanent Secretary Luckson Kasonka acknowledged the development.

Since then, Professor Kasonka has said that Mwepu’s condition is largely stable.

He stated that the hospital would keep an eye on his condition.

Lee Kawanu, who runs the Kafue Celtic Football Club and was one of Mwepu’s first trainers in Zambia, has also sent his best wishes to the former Chipolopolo player.

According to Kawanu, in order to determine the best course of action for treating MWEPU’s health, doctors from the UK are in contact with their Zambian counterparts.

Mwepu was told in October of last year that he had a heart problem that ran in his family. This meant that he could no longer play professional football at the age of 24.
