German authorities have classified the Munich car ramming incident as a suspected attack, revealing that the driver is an Afghan asylum seeker. Investigations are ongoing.

According to police, the driver involved in a car crash with pedestrians in Munich is a 24-year-old asylum seeker from Afghanistan.

Police report that at least 28 individuals have been injured, with a minimum of two in critical condition. Earlier, they had stated that “several” people were critically hurt.

Officers are considering the incident a “suspected attack,” and local officials report that the suspect was previously known to police for theft and drug-related offenses.

According to local reports, the car drove into a demonstration organized by a trade union.

The crash occurred just hours before the U.S. Vice President and Ukrainian President were scheduled to arrive in the city for the Munich Security Conference; however, police do not believe there is any connection between these events.
