Former PDP Chairman, Others Defect to APC in Ebonyi
In a major political shift, a former PDP chairman and several members have defected to the APC in Ebonyi State, further deepening the opposition party’s crisis.
Ifeanyi Nworie, the former acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, has switched allegiance to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Wednesday, Nworie and hundreds of his supporters were warmly received into the APC with a civic reception at the Ezza South Local Government Area headquarters in Onueke.
He expressed his support for the administration led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, stating that he joined the APC due to its people-oriented policies.
He pledged to leverage his extensive political experience to assist Nwifuru in delivering development for the people.
We have been through many challenges and can now see that Governor Francis Nwifuru and the APC genuinely care about the state’s well-being.
He stated, “We are switching allegiance to support Governor Nwifuru in developing the state and delivering democratic benefits to its citizens.”
The state’s APC party chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, welcomed the defectors and urged them to continue supporting the APC government. He emphasized that conflicts and resentment are detrimental to everyone involved.
He mentioned that he has reached out to Ifeanyi Chukwuma-Odii, the governorship candidate of the opposition PDP in the 2023 general election, inviting him to collaborate with Nwifuru to advance the state.
The door to the party is like that of a church; once you repent, you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
We invite everyone to join us. The progress of a state is built on collective ideas, and we welcome those who have chosen to change allegiance.
“I traveled to Lagos to meet with Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma-Odii, joining forces with Governor Nwifuru to advance the state’s progress,” he stated.
