Minister, Alkali: We’ll restructure the rail industry for better service delivery
In keeping with President Bola Tinibu’s objective to make rail transport safe, available, and affordable for all Nigerians, the Federal Government has expressed its intention to reposition the industry for better service delivery.
The announcement was made recently by the Minister of Transportation, Sai’du Alkali, during an unannounced visit to the Idu Train Station in Abuja, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike.
The Minister stated that he will intensify cooperation with the Military high command to increase security along all train routes when discussing plans to overhaul the railway services.
The Minister promised that the damaged train cars, restrooms, elevators, and escalators will be restored and returned to service as quickly as possible.
In addition, he thanked the security personnel for providing protection, assured them that any outstanding allowances would be paid right away, and promised that moving forward, they would be paid on time.
Alkali urged Nigerians to continue using trains while reiterating that they are still the best mode of transportation since significant efforts are being made to operate them in accordance with international best practises.
