A medevac jet has crashed into a residential neighborhood in the US, causing widespread damage and raising concerns over air safety. Watch the dramatic footage.

A Learjet 55 used for medical transport, carrying six individuals, crashed in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening. Witnesses and security cameras recorded a bright flash in the sky preceding the disaster, which was then followed by explosions and dense plumes of smoke.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) verified that the jet crashed at approximately 6:30 PM local time, soon after taking off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The plane was headed to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.

According to FlightRadar24 data, the Mexico-registered twin-engine jet was owned by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance. Newly appointed U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy confirmed that there were six individuals on board. Emergency personnel at the scene informed NBC News that the victims likely included two doctors, two pilots, a patient, and one family member.

Several residents in the area were reportedly injured, but officials have not yet released a casualty count or commented on the severity of these injuries.

The impact caused several houses in the area to catch fire.

Videos circulating on social media depicted debris scattered across the streets. Emergency responders promptly arrived to combat the fires and aid those affected.

The City of Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management’s official X account reported a major incident near Cottman and Bustleton Avenues across from Roosevelt Mall in Northeast Philadelphia. Roads, including sections of Roosevelt Boulevard, are closed in the vicinity. Please avoid the area.

The crash occurred approximately three miles (5 km) from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, which serves as a hub for single-engine aircraft, private jets, turboprops, and helicopters. Authorities are currently investigating to determine the cause of the disaster.

The incident occurs only a few days after a deadly collision between a passenger jet and a Black Hawk helicopter over Washington, DC, which resulted in the deaths of 67 individuals.
