Mahmud, Son of ISWAP Founder, Surrenders in Maiduguri
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced that Mahmud Mamman Nur Albarnawy, the eldest son of ISWAP founder Mamman Nur, has surrendered to them in Maiduguri.
Mahmud, who is 22 years old, surrendered on Sunday and has been transferred to the Bulunkutu rehabilitation facility for further processing and custody.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert in the Lake Chad Basin, Mahmud has confessed to participating in attacks in various locations as a middle-ranking fighter under the Boko Haram group.

Intelligence sources have confirmed his identity as the senior son of the late ISWAP founder.
The NSCDC facilitated his surrender through his uncle in Gamborun Ngala, and he was brought to Maiduguri by a reliable agent.
During his debriefing, Mahmud revealed that he had escaped from the Ali Ngulde camp in Mandara Mountain and had stayed in Maiduguri for a month before relocating to Gamboru Ngala.
Despite being urged by his father’s loyalists to return to the Lake Chad area and pledge allegiance to ISWAP, Mahmud refused due to the betrayal and execution of his late father.
