Nigerian Army Detains Personnel Found with Illegal Ammunition and Grenade in Maiduguri

The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of one of its personnel for the illegal possession of ammunition and explosives.

The arrest occurred during a routine search operation conducted by the Military Police K9 Team at the Borno Express Terminal in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, released a statement confirming the arrest.

The soldier, Lance Corporal Mubarak Yakubu, was found with 756 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition and four 36 hand grenades, cleverly concealed within a small bag of rice.

This arrest highlights the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to maintaining discipline and preventing any illegal activities within its ranks.

The soldier in question had been de-inducted from active theatre operations in March 2024 and was undergoing de-induction training at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the soldier was on a welfare pass from Jaji to Kaduna and Adamawa from April 30, 2024, to May 13, 2024, when the arrest occurred.

The Nigerian Army assured the public that it would conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and take appropriate disciplinary measures.
