The UN and the international community should immediately begin a humanitarian operation in Gaza, according to the leader of Brazil.

In order to safeguard youngsters caught up in the violence, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has called for an early truce in the Israel-Palestine conflict. He has also urged the UN and the international community to take prompt action to stop violations of human rights.

The leader of Brazil on Wednesday pleaded with nations all over the world and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to cease “the most serious violation of human rights in the conflict in the Middle East.”

Lula maintained that children should never be kept captive anywhere in the world.

The president emphasised that Israel must stop bombing Gaza so that Palestinian children and their mothers can escape the region and cross the border with Egypt, and that Hamas must return Israeli children who have been abducted from their families.

“There is an urgent need for international humanitarian involvement. In order to protect Israeli and Palestinian children, a ceasefire is urgently needed, Lula said. Brazil, he continued, would participate in any initiatives to put a “immediate and final end” to the violence.

Additionally, Hamas and the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have been urged to “leave women and children in peace” and refrain from attacking civilians by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russia is well aware of the intense animosity that exists between Israel and Palestine, but he insisted that civilian casualties be kept to a minimum.

Moscow has consistently encouraged both sides to put an end to the fighting and has branded the abduction of hostages and the intentional targeting of people as “unacceptable.”

The most recent escalation of hostilities started on Saturday when the militant Palestinian organisation Hamas, which governs a large portion of Gaza, launched “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” firing rockets and sending commandos deep into Israeli territory. As Israel formally declared war, the IDF retaliated by bombing Gaza and shutting off all of its utilities.

At least 1,300 people had died and 3,300 had been injured in Israel as of Thursday morning. Since the start of hostilities, the Palestinian authorities in Gaza have reported at least 1,203 fatalities and more than 5,763 injuries.
