Salihu Moh. Lukman, a former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive internal reforms within the party to enhance its chances in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

He stressed that these reforms are crucial to prevent the fate suffered by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 when it was defeated by the APC.

In a statement titled “Wither Nigerian Democracy: Urgency of Rebuilding Political Parties” released in Abuja on Sunday, April 14, the former national vice chairman (North West) highlighted that the proposed reforms are aimed at strengthening the functional organs of the party and fostering the growth of Nigerian democracy.

Additionally, Salihu Moh. Lukman, who previously served as the director general of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), underscored the importance of addressing the issue of party funding beyond the current reliance on elected representatives.

He expressed concern that the ruling party has deviated from the original vision of its founders, necessitating the implementation of his suggested reforms to realign the party with its core principles.
